Here is how to use the OSINT tool in under one minute. Open the OSINT-tool webpage, skip over anything that looks like sales, and locate the Chrome Extension button. Install the Chrome extension from the Chrome store. The extension works for any Chromium based browser – this includes: Chrome, Edge, Opera, Brave. Basically, any browser except FireFox and Safari… Who uses Safari anyhow? Open a webpage, any page. The extension injects code into the page, so you must go to a live, real page to make it work. We suggest the Test Cricket Wikipedia page. Find the button, nugget, thing-thing. Call it what you want – the OSINT-tool icon floating around on all the pages. When you mouse-over it you’ll see the menu appear. From here you can do things. Things like – saving the page to MHTML or taking a screenshot or accessing the graphs or going to the highlights. You’ll also see that the tool creates action menus on names (that blue dot top left). In this case, it’s a name, but it also works on email addresses, aliases, IP addresses and many other entities. Feel free to left and right click on buttons, move sliders and open windows, play around and explore…you won’t break anything. And – that’s it, you’ve installed the most powerful online investigation tool in the whole wide world.
Video 2 – tracking online investigations with OSINT-Tool
Transcript:
Let’s see how you can track your online investigation with the OSINT-Tool. With the browser extension installed, you’ll see that every page you visit will be tracked and saved as nodes in the graph view. When one node is connected to another on the graph, it means that you navigated from one page to the other. The following information is saved – the URL, the time, and a screenshot of the last view you’ve seen. When you revisit the page at a later stage, this information is updated. In the thumbnail view you get an overview of all the screenshots – like Instagram. See how you can retrace the steps of your online investigation? On infinite scrolling, single page sites, like Twitter or Facebook, a single screenshot is not very useful. That’s why we give you the ability to mark any area of the webpage and save unlimited additional screenshots. You access this by clicking on the camera icon, by pressing Control and tilde, or by holding Alt and left click. This is useful to retain important parts of the page. In the thumbnail view and in the graph view, pages with additional screenshots are marked with yellow borders. You can retrieve the screenshots by clicking on them. There’s also a button the copies the screenshot to the clipboard – useful for reports!
Video 3 – Using bookmarks in OSINT-Tool
Transcript:
During an online investigation you will inevitably find that some web pages are more interesting than others. In the Oh Es Int Tool we give you ability to bookmark a webpage with four different colors. You can assign any meaning to a color – for instance marking important pages as red and pages that need more investigation as green. You can quickly bookmark a webpage while you’re browsing it by hovering the mouse over the control and selecting a color. Once you’ve bookmarked a page you will see that the frame around the control changes color. In the UI, to bookmark a page, simply right click on a page and set the color. When a bookmark is applied to a page, a color frame around it appears. In any of the views you can filter results by bookmark – just click on the color. This gives you ability to quickly find pages. There are two special filters – ‘None’ and ‘Any’. The ‘any’ filter will show pages with bookmarks – of any color – or if it has a screenshot. The ‘none’ filter will show pages that are not bookmarked and that do not have additional screenshots. This is useful for deleting unimportant pages at the end of an investigation – before you share your results with your team.
